2016 – Caitlin Wood

Citation: Caitlin Wood is a wonderful young soprano with excellent stage presence, a beautiful clear voice and the potential for an international operatic career.

Soprano Caitlin Wood grew up in St. Albert, Alberta, and in 2013 received the Richard Bradshaw Graduate Fellowship in Opera from the University of Toronto’s Opera School. As a member of Vancouver Opera’s Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program, Caitlin sang Frasquita in Carmen and Johanna in Sweeney Todd. At Banff in 2015, she sang Despina in Against the Grain Theatre’s A Little too Cosy.

This season, Caitlin stars as Mary in Pacific Opera Victoria’s touring production of Mary’s Wedding and is a soloist in Carmina Burana with Okanagan Symphony. Caitlin reprises her feisty Despina in AGT’s Toronto production of A Little Too Cozy. Recently she was awarded first place in the WMC McLellan Competition.

Caitlin Wood looks forward to performing Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia at the Banff Centre for the Arts’ Kisses on Broadway at Westben Festival in Campbellford Ontario in July, and her debut as Clorinda in Edmonton Opera’s comic gem, La Cenerentola. She is looking forward to 2017 and her starring role as Susanna in Vancouver Opera’s Marriage of Figaro.
