Ashleigh Bartlett earned her MFA at the University of Guelph in 2011 and her BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2006. Her interest in theatricality, anthropomorphism, and abstract painting as it relates to feminism, has prompted a series of works to include painting, drawing, collage and cut paintings that have a malleable and sculptural quality. Recent group exhibitions include Future Station; The Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art at Enterprise Square Galleries (Edmonton, AB), Both One and Another at Five Points Gallery (Torrington, CT USA) and recent solo exhibition, Night Moves, at Paul Kuhn Gallery (Calgary, AB). Bartlett is the recipient of grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and SSHRC. In 2014, she was a semi-finalist in the 16th annual RBC Canadian Painting Competition. Her work is included in the collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and Global Affairs Canada. Bartlett is currently engaged in an international collaborative project with artist Jessica Groome titled Circles & Wigs.
